LAND STEWARDSHIP
The Town of Mashpee is initiating a "Land Stewards" Program which is intended to provide a first line of defense against misuse of Mashpee's open space lands. It comes about as a result of frequent damaging acts by users of ATV's and indiscriminate illegal dumpers. It is worthwhile, zero cost grassroots volunteerism at its best.
The program asks volunteers to visit their assigned area once/twice a year or more often if feasible and observe conditions and report them via a simple check list. Volunteers may also take along a pair of small hand clippers to accomplish minor trail maintenance and pick up small litter. Volunteers may additionally/optionally help with annual clean-ups when conditions requiring them exist.
The Mashpee Environmental Coalition recommends your participation in this worthwhile program and is building a list of volunteers in support of the Town's initiative. A map of the area and links to the numbered area listings are shown below.
Please volunteer and forward the following information via email to Ed Baker or by postal mail to MEC, P.O. Box 274, Mashpee, MA 02649.
List your name, mailing and email addresses, area desired and willingness to be assigned (after consultation) to a second choice if the first choice is oversubscribed.
