A few residents concerned about the Mashpee River, rapid growth of the town, and apparent lack of active ecological concern met informally trying to develop a grassroots awareness of the environmental problems facing the town.     While these informal meetings grew into the Coalition, MEC's transition to an organized group began with its 501(c3) incorporation and the issue of the first quarterly newsletter in the Summer of 1996.

Our mission is to: promote an understanding and appreciation of Mashpee´s natural resources. provide our community with environmental information. promote, practice, and enlist participation and stewardship to protect and preserve the ecological integrity of our town.
