Pond and Lake Stewards

 


Ponds are a "window to our groundwater" and directly or indirectly an influence on resident's "Quality of Life":

The MEC "Pond and Lake Stewards" Program is an initiative to baseline and trend monitor the water quality of Mashpee's major ponds.  Working with an initial equipment assistance grant from the Community Foundation of Cape Cod, MEC is actively seeking volunteer monitors.

The program was initiated in 2003 and includes 6 Mashpee Ponds with public access.

Please contact us if you would like to be a Pond or Lake Steward. The basic requirements are:

The sampling is easy to learn and on-the-job training is available.

Reports of each years results are compiled and published

The "Ponds and Lakes Stewards" Program was initiated as a joint effort of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC), The Cape Cod Commission (CCC) and the School for Marine Science and Technology (SMAST) UMass, Dartmouth.
