Mashpee Environmental Coalition Scholarship

The Mashpee Environmental Coalition Scholarship was created by the Board of Directors of the Mashpee Environmental Coalition (MEC) in 2020 to support future leaders dedicated to helping the environment.  The first MEC Scholarships were awarded to Mashpee Middle-High School (MMHS) students in May 2020.

All MMHS seniors are eligible to apply who are Mashpee residents and who plan to continue their studies full-time at an institution of higher education immediately after high school.  Preference is given to MMHS seniors who are active members of the MMHS Environmental Club; demonstrated leaders in environmental issues; and/or students who plan to continue their education with a focus on the environment.

Seniors must apply for the MEC Scholarship through the standard MMHS scholarship process, with requirements as follows:

  1. The Mashpee High School Scholarship Application
  2. Information regarding:
    • future educational plans, including the intended college and major for the upcoming Fall semester; and
    • how and why the environment has been an important focus for the applicant – as demonstrated by high school accomplishments, activities, clubs, and volunteer work
  3. At least one letter of recommendation from a High School Teacher or Guidance Counselor

The scholarship deadline is determined by MMHS each year.  All questions regarding the application process should be directed to the MMHS guidance department.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by MMHS in May of each year.  Prior to the disbursement of the scholarship award, each recipient must first submit an official college transcript by April 30th — mailed directly to MEC from their institution of higher education — showing successful Fall semester grades (minimum 12 credits earned and 2.0 GPA).  Scholarship awards will then be disbursed directly to the student.
